laptop and the meeting

I have a laptop that I will bring. Somebody should also bring a notebook and some pens. Since we did not post here, we can just bring our ideas to the meeting and go over them.

Meeting Place

Brandon said he forgot where we supposed to meet. The meeting place is gonna be at the Starbucks in the southeast corner of Longmore and Southern Ave.

For the main characters, we need to think about what kind of behavior and appearance those two are going to portray. Brandon mentioned that the character will show how neat and organized the other one is compared to the other guy. We need to start listing personality, clothing style, mannerism and speech.

By the way, if you guys don't like the meeting location, feel free to suggest anytime.

Just so there's no confusion...let's post our ideas by Thursday. Then on Friday we'll meet to discuss at 4:00 at MCC. Let's meet in front of Cyndi's class and decide where to go from there (unless someone has a place they want to meet). AT 5:00 whoever needs to leave can leave and the rest of who's left will go and try to hammer out a script. Carlos or Peter-do you have a laptop? Let me know if we need to change plans.

Lets do both. Brandons idea wouldn't take too long to cut and edit, Peters will have a little more thought into it and take longer. But if we get on the ball, we can suck up and have 2 films. The whole color thing....remember, we are all "artist", some average people may not get the whole color blend. Although...very creative idea, but I too think it may take away from the story. Like the Phoenix Film Festival film The Falls. I was a tad distracted by the color shift in that movie. Lets get working on a script!!! :) Where the heck is Carlos on this blog?

Waking Life

I'm really coming on board with Peter's idea. I wouldn't mind doing both ideas but I really prefer Peter's over mine. I was thinking Linz, if you wanted to do the waking life filter, we could use it on the credits or something. Have some sort of interesting scene going on in the background while the credits roll. Is it possible to do both our ideas? Probably not but what do you guys think?

That is a good point that too many colors would distract and possibly confuse the audience. It could definitely be left out (the green) without the story being affected.

I really like your idea Peter. I like the idea of two colors and how it can affect the audience. But with the alternative, I think two colors is better than three because you don't want to show more colors. It might be too much for the audience and they might get confused. It also disengaged the audience from the story too.

I need this for my photoshop project...One of the characters can be an artist, but her/his POV can look like Waking Life. Artists look at life like art, so why not run a filter on their Point of View so everything he looks at is artistic or a painting.

I have been thinking about my idea and have some alternatives that might also work. My original idea was to follow 1 person’s life as it follows along 2 separate paths. Both paths would be shown side by side on the screen. One path would be a life of happiness and success, which would be filmed in a warm tone (I will call it yellow). The other path is filled with sadness and failure and would be filmed in a cool tone (blue). When common events to both paths occur (or have a neutral affect) the film will be shown with a green tint.

The time period is still undetermined but it could work nicely as a day or two or even a week or two. It would show certain events that could go either way for the paths and would have an impact on that path. A job loss, eviction or relationship starting or ending (just examples). As the paths move along in the story, they become farther apart in the separations, but still maintain many common aspects and events.

Focus on the desperation and sadness of the blue side, will create sympathy for the blue character and a small resentment for the yellow character. While there is only one real character, the audience will still relate to the blue and yellow as different characters. Finally when the two paths are at the farthest points from each other, they will cross for one last time. This crossing would be the end of both paths.

My alternative to the single person shown in two different lights would be two friends or coworkers who lead similar lives but are very different in their successes and failures. When the two in the company of each other, the screen is then turned to a green, instead of the appropriate color for the individual (yellow, blue).

Ok, i really am liking your idea Peter and would like it if you could kind of explain it here because i'm not sure if i did it justice. I was thinking a lot about it and how when the two worlds are split it's a 3rd person shot but when the worlds come together it's a POV shot. I really like the colors idea and think we could pull out some really interesting contrasts/similarities between the two worlds.

Another idea that's kicking around is this:
Do a film where you start out looking at a face. As you pull back you realize that it's a POV shot in a mirror. This POV shot continues as the person walks through the streets. Then the camera looks and dwells for a little on another person walking by. Then the shot changes to that persons POV. This continues happening where the POV shot changes each time a new person is encountered. You could have a POV of a blind man, or a dog. You could even have the POV of a couple holding hands by doing a split screen. Of course through all of this you would have a story (i.e. the first person has a lottery ticket that flies away from him only to be picked up at the end of the film by a bum).

I'm really stuck on doing something split screen thing but I'm way open for other ideas. I think Peter hit it on the nose last night when he said that he wanted to make something that's been a cut above everything else we've done. We've learned a lot and I think if we all work together we can do something that we'll be extremely proud of. I'm very excited! My nipples are hard!

I'm also very interested in Spanish missions and old churches and the hard desert. If we could utilize that that would be great, considering it's all around us.
